We
are located just east of Goldendale Washington.
We've been in this area a little over 10 years and have been
breeding and raising dogs and birds for over 15 years. Our
farm is on a about 100 acres with a beautiful view of Mt.
Hood, Oregon. We are a small, family run business. Our interest
in birds started over 25 years ago with parrots and other
hookbills. Our experience with the outdoor birds started with
chickens and other "barnyard type" turkeys, ducks,
geese, etc. We later got our first peacocks then a few types
of exotic pheasant. |
Our
hobby and love for the birds grew and the variety of birds
that we keep did too. We add new species every year and
find that to be one of the most fascinating aspects of aviaries
and bird breeding. Many species have brilliant colors, or
interesting courtship behaviors. Learning their habits or
viewing their displays can range from relaxing to spectacular
to even comical.
Many are endangered species in the wild and it brings satisfaction
to help sustain a captive population. There is always more
to learn and we have met many other friendly, knowledgeable
breeders along the way.
In
addition to selling to or trading with other breeders, we
hope to introduce new people to this fascinating hobby.
We offer info based on our experience with the species that
we have kept. Also tips on pen construction, shelters, etc.
We are not going to offer biological info or avicultural
data on each of the species. We wil leave that up to the
experts. There are many informative websites that go into
great detail on those subjects. |
We
take pride in producing quality birds. We feed a variety
of commercial blend game bird or layer crumbles and assorted
grains
& seeds. We also offer mixed greens, fruits & nuts,
meal worms, etc.
We provide fresh water daily and most pens have ponds in
them.
The ponds are designed for easy maintenance with large drains.
They are drained, cleaned and refilled regularly.
Our birds are raised in spacious well planted aviaries. |
 |
We plant fruit
trees, climbing roses, evergreens, etc. in and around the pens.
These make the pens more interesting, attract insects which the
birds eat and provide food & shelter. We have found that our
interest in flowers, gardening and landscaping goes hand & hand
with the aviaries.
Although this is a business for us, we never compromise in housing,
care or feed in order to make a profit. This is not our sole source
of income. We got involved in it for our genuine love of animals,
birds and nature. We will not sell birds that are not in top condition.
|
We
also enjoy watching wild birds. A large variety of ducks
& geese stop here while migrating. Some stay year around.
We regularly see Dove, Quail, Partridge, Robins, Bluebirds,
Meadow Larks, Red Winged Blackbirds, Goldfinches, etc
at various times of the year. The variety and number of
wild birds visiting our property has increased each year
since we started building aviaries and adding habitat. |
Many
of the wild birds will come right up next to the pens and
the smaller ones will enter through the wire. They often
become very trusting when they see us around our birds.
With food, water and shelter, many of them make their home
here. This is great opportunity for taking photos and viewing
them. |
Some of
the rewarding aspects of having aviaries are..........
|
|
|
Viewing
colorful finches in well planted indoor aviaries.
Very active, interesting, beautiful birds. |
Up
close viewing of daily activities |
|
|
|
Observing a variety
of courtship behaviors & displays
|
|
Watching
birds successfully breed and care
for their young |
Attracting
more wild
birds to the area. |
We are a licensed game bird farm. We are inspected regularly by
a veterinarian and are participants in NPIP. We currently have 37
outdoor and 7 indoor aviaries. We are constantly expanding.
We offer tours for youth organizations and people interested in
purchasing birds or building an aviary. This is by appointment only
at this time.
Our plans for
the future include additional aviaries and retail center on adjoining
property that will be open to the public. We want to keep adding
different species and types of aviaries. We hope this can be a
somewhat educational facility. We would like to raise awarness
to the many endangered species around the world as well as develop
an appreciation for what nature still has to offer.
