Cranes
We
currently raise East African Crowned Cranes and Demoiselle Cranes.
|
East
African Crowned Cranes.
These are facinating birds with a lot of personality.
We are fairly new to keeping them, but they are quickly
becoming one of our favorites. They are intelligent and
have a variety of courting behaviors.
Their dancing, bobbing, wing spreading and other movements
are entertaining to say the least.
It can be quite comical.
They are very curious and will always investigate anything
new in the pens.
They have more than one type of call. In our opinion,
all are exotic and enjoyable. They always get the most
attention from our visitors, especially the kids.
With their impressive size,(a wingspan of 6 ft) and beautiful
feather colors and patterns they are an awesome addition
to our aviaries. We currently have 2 pairs of Crowned
Cranes. 1, 5 year old pair and 1, 3 year old pair.

We
feed our cranes high protien game bird crumbles, corn,
wheat, wild bird seed & meal worms. The Demoiselles
will also eat canned cat food.

Demoiselle
Cranes
These are sleek, graceful birds. We have one young 3
year old pair. We purchased them as babies. They are
maturing into a friendly pair of birds. They dance and
love to bathe, watching them is entertaining as well. They
love insects and will eat mealworms from our hands.
Since
aquiring cranes we have become more aware of the different
crane species in general. For example the more endangered
cranes such as Whooping and Red Crowned Cranes.
An interesting and very informative organization is
the International Crane Foundation. We
hope to someday raise Sandhills and Stanley Cranes.
